US President Donald Trump is again critical of Pope Leo.
This is happening in a post on his own social media, Truth Social, early Wednesday morning Danish time.
Here the president emphasizes that it is unacceptable if Iran gets a nuclear bomb.
- Will someone please tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed protesters in the last two months, and that it is completely unacceptable for Iran to get a nuclear bomb, Trump writes.
- The United States is back, the post from the president ends.
Al Jazeera writes about Trump's post that it is unclear where the president got the number of 42,000 victims from. According to the media outlet, the Iranian government has previously said that 3,117 people were killed.
Outside Iran, rights groups have estimated that it is 7,007 people, according to Al Jazeera.
Mai Soto, the UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, has said that it is at least 5,000 people, while the actual number of dead, according to her, could be up to 20,000.
Pope Leo, who is known for choosing his words carefully, has become an outspoken critic of the US and Israel's war against Iran, which began on February 28.
Trump also came out with a harsh attack on Pope Leo on Truth Social on Sunday.
It was apparently a reaction to the fact that the head of the Catholic Church has criticized Trump's foreign and immigration policies, among other things.
- Pope Leo is weak when it comes to crime, and lousy at foreign policy, Trump wrote in a longer post.
On Wednesday morning, Trump also repeated his criticism of NATO in another post on Truth Social.
- NATO was not there for us, and they will not be there for us in the future, he writes.
Trump has also previously said that NATO has not been there for the United States, and that he does not believe that the countries in the defense alliance will be there for the United States if the country needs them.
Several NATO countries have refused to support the military campaign against Iran during the war.
