A big day awaits in Qaqortoq on Thursday, when the city's new airport opens.

On Tuesday this week, the first test flight was completed, as part of the final approval of the airport.

This is what Greenland Airports reports on Facebook:

- It was a beautiful evening, with many curious people watching from the mountains near the airport, while the plane landed to applause and cheers, the company says.

First scheduled flight lands

According to the plan, the first scheduled flight from Nuuk is to land at the airport on Thursday at 08:55.

In this connection, an opening event will be held at the airport before the first official departure takes place at 10:10, where a plane takes off heading for Nuuk.

Greenland Airports informs about the event that based on the fire authorities' review and the space limitations in the terminal, the company has to limit access to the building during the opening event.

Coffee and cocktail in the community center

Until approximately 11:00, only invited guests, travelers, employees and involved parties will have access to the terminal.

- We are very pleased with the great interest in the opening of Qaqortoq Airport and know that many people would like to be part of the day. After the opening event, we look forward to opening the doors and showing off the new terminal, Greenland Airports writes on their Facebook page.

There will also be a coffee and cocktail in the town's community center.
