The latest statement from Naalakkersuisoq for Fisheries Peter Borg about the shrimp factory in Aasiaat that is threatened with closure has been that Polar Seafoods and Royal Greenland should enter into dialogue. A dialogue that has not yielded results, Polar Seafoods director Bent Salling told Sermitsiaq on Thursday.
Polar Seafoods' statement has caused great concern among local politicians in the Municipality of Qeqertalik, and the Siumut group is now demanding that political action be taken.
Serious problem
- Siumut believes that such a serious problem should be politically involved as soon as possible . Therefore, we demand that the municipal council be convened for an extraordinary meeting as soon as possible, write Paneeraq Sandgreen & Aqqa Samuelsen on behalf of Siumut's political group in the municipal council.
The party calls for action, and it cannot happen too quickly.
- The mayor of Qeqertalik Municipality is the representative of the citizens and must therefore prioritize this matter without further delay. If an extraordinary meeting is not held, the citizens' trust could be seriously weakened, the press release states.
Peter Borg must act
The party believes that Peter Borg has not done enough by simply referring the two fishing giants to enter into dialogue and find a common solution.
- Minister of Fisheries Peter Borg has stated that the two companies should discuss a common solution. In Siumut's opinion, this is not sufficient - action is needed now, Siumut politicians state, referring to the fact that it is not only about jobs, but also about families, kindergartens, schoolchildren, other professions and the future of the city.
