Mayor reveals: Airport road to be named after former mayor

The airport road in Qaqortoq is named Henrik Lundip Aqqutaa, says Mayor Malene Vahl Rasmussen at the inauguration of the airport.

It was amidst great cheers and cheers that Mayor of Municipality of Kujalleq Malene Vahl Rasmussen took the podium on Thursday morning at the inauguration of Qaqortoq Airport:

- Finally! I have to say it. When I was born, the idea of ​​opening an airport in Qaqortoq already existed, the mayor began and continued:

- I was a child and young man when the debate about an airport was underway. And as an adult, I was able to join in the debate about the design. The task has been a long time in the making.

The mayor highlighted a particular champion of the project:

- The airport project has been debated for over 40 years. Several politicians who have worked on it are still involved today, but a large number have already passed away. But I would like to mention Qaqortoq's former mayor Henrik Lund, who initiated the desire for an airport in Qaqortoq during his 20-year term as mayor, said Malene Vahl Rasmussen.

She revealed that the airport road will be named after him:

- To honor Henrik Lund, I will now announce that the airport road in Qaqortoq is called Henrik Lundip Aqqutaa (Henrik Lund's road, ed.). He is very important at this historic moment, said the mayor.

She concluded by talking about the hope and joy that the new airport has brought to Qaqortoq:

- I can feel your joy. I can recognize that, as I am very happy myself, deep down. I have high hopes for the new airport. It will help create better infrastructural opportunities and development for the municipality. With an upcoming route to Iceland, Qaqortoq will be open to the rest of the world.
