The new members of Inatsisartut's Committee for Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture were appointed at the beginning of this week, when several new members of Inatsisartut were appointed.

Among them is Ane Hansen (IA), former mayor of the Municipality of Qeqertalik, who has now set an agenda for the committee. Namely the future of the factory in Aasiaat, which is owned by Polar Seafood.

The factory may end up being closed this autumn if there is no solution to the challenges. This has been announced by Polar Seafood CEO Bent Salling after negotiations between Polar Seafood and Royal Greenland, according to Bent Salling, broke down at the beginning of this week.

Many jobs at stake

This could result in 116 employees being left without a job.

- Inuit Ataqatigiit finds it important that the factory in Aasiaat is not closed. Therefore, the matter has been put on the agenda of the Fisheries and Hunting Committee, and if deemed necessary, we wish to hold consultations with Naalakkersuisoq, says member of Inatsisartut and member of the Committee for Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture, Ane Hansen, IA.

- We know how important the factory is for the Municipality of Qeqertalik. Therefore, we expect that we all have an interest in finding a solution, it says.

It is not stated when the committee will discuss Polar Seafood's factory in Aasiaat.
