Takeover bid may be on the way despite massive rejection

The US Secretary of State is apparently sitting with a big calculator ahead of the meeting with Greenland and Denmark. He has declared that the Americans would rather use money as a means than invade Greenland with weapons.

Will the Greenlandic population allow themselves to be bought with American dollars and thus say goodbye to their own sovereignty and the community with Denmark and the Faroe Islands in the Kingdom?

And will Denmark give up and thus lose the Kingdom's largest country in terms of area?

'No!' has been the unequivocal answer so far.

But US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated to the US legislature on Wednesday that a purchase offer is on the way ahead of the meeting with Greenland and Denmark, because the Americans would rather not invade Greenland with weapons, even though Trump has stated that it is a possibility, writes the Wall Street Journal.

Financiers and smart economists around the world have been trying to guess what kind of purchase offer Marco Rubio might make next week.

Rabobank: 6 million kroner for each nose

According to BT, the large Dutch bank, Rabobank, has calculated that every Greenlander will probably be offered more than 6 million kroner per nose.

There may be a purchase offer underway, while the upcoming meeting with the US Secretary of State is seen by Greenland and Denmark as an opportunity to confirm to the Americans that Greenland is not for sale.

Before, one might have been tempted to smile at the entire Kingdom. But this is deeply serious on the part of the United States. Even though the United States has unrestricted access to build all the military bases in Greenland that the United States needs.

Rubio's statement suggests that even though Greenland and Denmark are preparing for a diplomatic meeting with the foreign minister, the response from the American side may be in cash, namely in the form of US dollars.

It is unknown what will happen to the Greenlandic population.

The US government talks about purchase offers, but does not say what will happen to the Greenlandic population afterwards, if the purchase scenario were to be realized.

Member of Inatsisartut, Kuno Fencker (N) has indicated in a Facebook post that 'rumors are circulating' that Greenland can expect a free-association arrangement, where Greenland can be allowed to have a degree of self-determination. Fencker announced a year ago that he expects such an arrangement to be introduced. He has now reiterated this.

Kuno Fencker is also relatively often in the major news media, where he does not hesitate to criticize Denmark, including a claim that Denmark annexed Greenland in 1953 against the will of the Greenlandic population. This while the Greenlandic Government and the Danish Government largely prefer to remain silent.

Denmark and Greenland must act instead of waiting

If the Greenlandic Government and the Danish Government thought that there would be some calm now that there is a prospect of a direct meeting with the Americans, they must think again. The Trump camp insists that Greenland must be in American hands, regardless of the clear no from Greenland and Denmark.

If the Americans get serious and make a purchase offer, there is a possibility that the individual citizens of Greenland may be tempted to let go of everything, including what Greenland and Denmark have built up, while politicians in Greenland and Denmark still believe that a solution will be found through dialogue.
