Naalakkersuisoq's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt, and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen met 15 days ago with US Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In this connection, a working group was established.
Two weeks after its establishment, the working group held its first meeting, which pleases Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs.
– I am very pleased that they have started the work shortly after our agreement. It also shows how seriously they take the task, says Vivian Motzfeldt to Sermitsiaq.
According to Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the negotiations are now "back on track" after the parties returned to the agreement to discuss possible solutions in a working group. This assessment is shared by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greenland, Vivian Motzfeldt.
– Conditions are not yet as we want them, but the work has begun, she says.
There will probably still be noise next door
After the establishment of the working group, there have been repeated statements from the US about taking over Greenland. Naalakkersuisoq for Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the pressure on the country is unlikely to cease anytime soon.
– I would like to tell citizens that the dialogue is underway at the civil service level. There will probably still be "noise" on the side, but the most important thing is that the dialogue between the countries takes place through the established channels. These are the ones we should focus on and hope that they lead to good results, says Vivian Motzfeldt.
The working group includes three representatives from Greenland and three from Denmark. A date for the next meeting has not yet been set, but the parties have already agreed to meet again. Naalakkersuisoq for Foreign Affairs expects the working group to meet several times and has confidence in the work of the officials.
- I have started to sleep peacefully again, so I would like to reiterate that optimism, and that we must have confidence that the work of the officials in the working group has started well, and that we can finally meet face to face instead of only communicating via social media, says Vivian Motzfeldt.
