On Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greenland arrived at the airport in Nuuk, and many citizens turned out to show their support for her.
Last week, Motzfeldt represented Greenland at the high-profile meeting in the United States with US Vice President J. D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and this has been widely noted.
- She has done a good job for our country.
One of the citizens present at the airport is Regine Biilmann.
She says to Sermitsiaq:
- We are happy. We are here to welcome her because she is talented and has done good work for our country, it says.
One of the others who showed up was Inuk Wæver Johansen, who is the son of Vivian Motzfeldt.
He tells Sermitsiaq that he was very nervous and excited when his mother was going to meet with Marco Rubio, and that he became even more nervous when it was revealed that Vice President J. D. Vance was also going to attend the meeting.
Inuk Wæver Johansen says that he was relieved when the meeting was over, and that he is so proud of his mother.
Inuk Wæver Johansen says he is always excited for his mother Vivian to come home from foreign policy missions.
The last time he was at the airport to pick up his mother, it was only him and his father who were out to pick her up, so he is extra happy and proud of his mother, who is expecting a warm welcome this time, after meetings in the United States.
A moved Motzfeldt
Vivian Motzfeldt tells Sermitsiaq that she is very touched by the nice reception.
- Thank you very much, says Naalakkersuisoq, who was surprised and happy when she got off the plane in Nuuk.
What emotions are going through you right now?
- All emotions! I am very happy, but I am also aware that there are things we now have to work on. All those who have shown up and coming home to my beloved family gives me a lot of strength, says Vivian Motzfeldt.
- We are doing everything we can to make our country safe again.
She also gave a short speech to the many people present. Among other things, she said:
- What we are going through now is hard. We are working every single day. We have started the dialogue, but there is still a long way to go before we can reach a safe time. The most important thing, however, is that the dialogue has started with a view to us being able to live safely here again. We are working on that in our hearts every day.
- We are doing everything we can to ensure that our country can once again become safe, the way we are used to. We are doing everything we can to return to the familiar and safe everyday life.
