On 23 March 2026, the municipal council of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq approved the establishment of two new collectives in Nuuk. The measure is intended to strengthen housing services for citizens with disabilities and reduce waiting lists.

The municipality writes this on its website.

The two new collectives will be established in the buildings at Aqqusinersuaq 13 and Blok 9 and will together accommodate eight places, four in each collective. The offers are targeted at adults with physical or mental disabilities who need support during the day. This is in line with the municipality's disability policy to offer suitable housing services that meet the needs of the individual.

- I am pleased that we can now establish two new collectives in Nuuk. This is an important step in the work to ensure that citizens with disabilities receive offers that suit their needs and support them in living as independent a life as possible, says the chairman of the Committee for Social and Disability Justus Hansen (D).

The places will be allocated to citizens from the waiting list, citizens who are re-visited from a housing unit to a housing collective, and citizens who are taken home from a 24-hour service. The establishment is therefore expected to lead to a decrease in the waiting lists for both housing units and housing collectives.

The two housing collectives will be established in 2026. The buildings have already been renovated and are ready for occupancy, which means that the offers can be established quickly after approval.
