The Danish Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen (Left), is coming to Nuuk. He will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greenland, Vivian Motzfeldt (S).
This is stated by the Ministry of Defense in a press release.
The two ministers are holding a citizens' meeting in Nuuk on Saturday afternoon in light of the great attention in recent weeks regarding the increased military presence in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq.
Before that, they will sail out to Buksefjordsværket on Saturday morning, together with the Chief of Defence Michael Hyldgaard.
Here, the ministers will witness some of the security exercises underway at the hydroelectric power plant. "Operation Arctic Endurance" recently began, where Danish soldiers and NATO allies will practice protecting critical infrastructure in Greenland.
- The Government and the Greenlandic Government have a close collaboration on strengthening security in and around Greenland. The current strengthened presence under Arctic Endurance is a good example of this.
- I look forward to meeting the soldiers at the guard contribution. I would also like to thank the citizens of Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq for welcoming the increased presence of soldiers in the street scene, says Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.
The changing Arctic
Naalakkersuisoq for Foreign Affairs and Research, Vivian Motzfeldt, states:
- The Arctic is changing, and Greenland in particular is facing challenging times. The presence of the armed forces has been a sensitive issue throughout time, and it is therefore important to highlight the good cooperation between the Government of Greenland and the government on the increased presence of the armed forces in Greenland.
- I would like to thank the soldiers for their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the Greenlandic population.
The Buksefjord power plant is part of the critical infrastructure around Nuuk.
During the visit to Buksefjorden there will be a door step for the press present.
Later in the day there will also be doorstep delivery in Nuuk.
