In response to the great pressure from the United States against Greenland, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Naaja H. Nathanielsen (IA), held a meeting with leaders from the business community on Friday last week.

In a press release, the Government of Greenland highlights the positive aspect of the situation - namely that the outside world has turned its attention towards Greenland, and that the assessment is that there is currently no negative impact.

Nathanielsen thanks the business community and states that the situation should be turned into opportunities:

- We must take advantage of the increased international focus and translate it into concrete opportunities. We have strong faith in the country and our robustness and the opportunities we hold, says Naaja H. Nathanielsen.

- Open for investments

According to her, neither the business community nor naalakkersuisoq sees signs of insecurity in relation to investments and economic activity in the Greenlandic business community:

- We are open to investments as long as they are conducted on transparent and responsible terms with respect for the country's laws and our local communities, says Nathanielsen.

One of the meeting participants was Christian Keldsen, director of Greenland's Chamber of Commerce. He states that timely care has made it possible to get through the past few weeks:

- The Greenlandic business community is ready for change, and the timely care in the dialogue between authorities and business has made it possible to navigate through the announcements of recent weeks. This provides a basis for making the best use of the situation and creating peace of mind for our employees, says Christian Keldsen.

It was last week that US President Donald Trump defused the otherwise tense situation when he made it clear that he would not use military force to take over Greenland, and that negotiations would now be conducted through diplomatic channels about the US's future options in Greenland.
