Evannguaq Olsen Cortzen and Vivi Rothaus Olesen both have children in the daycare institution Nukariit and as parents experience firsthand how the staff in the institution is fighting a great battle for the children, but under far too poor conditions.
More than half of the positions in Nukariit are vacant, and in addition the daycare institution is also missing a manager.
That is why they are now calling for a demonstration to speak out against what they describe as a failure of educational staff throughout the country. They are calling on parents and educational staff from all over the country to participate in the demonstration.
- I hope that many will support and participate in the demonstration, because it is not reassuring to be a parent when we do not know whether our child will be safe in the institution and thrive there, says Evannguaq Olsen Cortzen.
Evannguaq Olsen Cortzen emphasizes that they are happy with the pedagogical staff who go to work every day, but that the current conditions worry them and that it affects our children.
- We want to help the staff because it is about their conditions and the well-being of our children. It is our children's future that is at stake, and if it is to be good, the staff is the most important thing. They help form the basis for our children's future, says Evannguaq Olsen Cortzen.
The initiators of the demonstration say that they have tried to contact the municipality, but have not received a satisfactory response to their appeal, and therefore now feel compelled to call for a demonstration. - The parents' group in Nukariit was contacted by the staff about the extent of the staff shortage. Therefore, we agreed to gather all the parents and write a complaint to the municipality. We did not feel that we received a satisfactory answer and that is why we are organizing a demonstration, says Vivi Rothaus Olesen.
The demonstration will take place on Friday, May 1st at 2 pm and will start in front of Amisut in Nuuk.
