May 20. This day is National Equality Day in Greenland. And equality is important for everyone - from children to the elderly, says Naalakkersuisoq for Children, Youth, Justice and Equality, Mariane Paviasen Jensen (IA).
- On the occasion of National Equality Day, I would like to emphasize that equality is about security, justice and ensuring real equal opportunities for all citizens of the country - children and adults.
- On this day, we must both recognize the progress that has been made and maintain attention to the challenges that still require action, writes naalakkersuisoq in a press release.
Want more knowledge about salaries
According to naalakkersuisoq's assessment, there is a lack of knowledge about whether people with the same job receive the same salary. And about this, naalakkersuisoq wants more knowledge.
- It is an area that we do not know enough about.
And it is naalakkersuisoq's goal to obtain sufficient knowledge.
- Because without concrete knowledge and data in the specific area, it is difficult to define what is needed to achieve the goal of achieving equal pay for equal work, writes Mariane Paviasen Jensen.
Makes a call
She wants equality to be considered more in everyday life. Whether it is at home, at work or in everyday activities.
- When we each do small, concrete things in everyday life, together we create a culture where fewer people experience violence and discrimination, where more people have real equal opportunities, and where everyone can develop freely - regardless of gender, writes naalakkersuisoq.
Initiatives must be clearer
In addition to unequal pay, naalakkersuisoq wants to encourage that efforts to prevent psychological violence become clearer.
- Psychological violence is an area where silence and lack of knowledge make it difficult to prevent and help. We know that psychological violence often leaves invisible but long-lasting consequences – not least for children and young people. But we need more knowledge in the area so that professionals, authorities and citizens can recognize the signs and help provide support at home, at school, at work and in the local community.
