- I would like to begin by thanking the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greenland, Vivian Motzfeldt, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and the entire Greenlandic-Danish delegation for their work in Washington.

This is what the Chairman of the Greenlandic Parliament, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D), writes in a post on Facebook. He is talking about the meeting between Greenland, Denmark and the USA yesterday, where they discussed President Donald Trump's desire to take control of Greenland.

Jens-Frederik Nielsen writes that the meeting was conducted in a serious but constructive tone. And he is pleased that the dialogue is now underway and that there is agreement to establish a working group to continue working on the disagreements between the parties.

- It is an important step. Dialogue and diplomacy are the right way forward, even when the interests are great and the pressure is noticeable.

Greenland is not for sale

Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Vivian Motzfeldt held a press conference after the meeting yesterday, where they made it clear that the US administration has not moved from their position. They still want Greenland.

Therefore, Jens-Frederik Nielsen makes it clear again in his post that Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.

- Greenland wants peaceful and dialogue-based cooperation with the USA and with our international partners. But dialogue requires respect for our constitutional position, for international law and for our right to our own land, he writes.

He reiterates that Greenland is not for sale and that we are part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Like the Deputy Chairman of the Greenland Government, Múte B. Egede (IA), at a press conference last night, Jens-Frederik Nielsen calls for unity.

- The security situation is serious, and the geopolitical interests in our region are great. I understand that this creates unrest. That is precisely why it is crucial that we hold on to our community and the alliances that protect us.

- Now is not the time for internal discussions. Now is the time for unity, calm and responsibility. I am following the situation closely, and I stand with you in taking care of Greenland
