In the same week that the election was called, Siumut has presented yet another candidate for the upcoming Danish parliamentary election on March 24.
This is 58-year-old Erika Baadh Nielsen, who today combines her background as a librarian and a master's degree in Cultural and Social History with a degree as a nutritionist.
Food and international interest in the scheme
She is running on the grounds that Greenland's natural resources must be transformed into export goods to create jobs throughout the country, that the authority's responsibility for food must be moved from Denmark to Greenland, so that the rules support production rather than slow it down, and that international interest in the Arctic must be exploited to modernize ports and ensure self-sufficiency.
- In order to create growth in remote areas and settlements, it is necessary for Greenland to take over authority responsibility in the food sector, so that the rules support rather than hinder local production
- I see it as an important and seriously prioritized task in the Folketing that several of the Danish Food Authority's authorities are either transferred to our country or adapted to our conditions, writes Erika Baadh Nielsen, among other things, in a press release.
