For the first time, Avannaata Municipality will now also participate in the PDAC mining fair in Toronto.
It will be the mayor and an employee from the business department, who will have increased their knowledge within the mineral resources area "as well as creating and strengthening close cooperative relationships with actors within the mineral resources sector", as expressed in a briefing to the municipal council meeting on Friday, February 13.
For many years, large business delegations have participated in the mining fair together with participants from several different municipalities, politicians, the Greenland Government and the Ministry of Mineral Resources. The fair will be held from March 1 to 4 and around 130,000 people from more than 130 countries have previously participated.
School visit
It is not only the raw materials sector that the mayor is seeking new knowledge about. The Siumut politician has also decided to take a trip to Copenhagen to visit a special school that has previously had significant challenges, but which has achieved significant improvements through a targeted effort.
- The school has, among other things, worked with issues around dropouts and students who did not continue in the education system. In addition, there have been challenges with unrest and lack of discipline in everyday life. Through a changed effort and new pedagogical approaches, positive changes have been created, and different methods are now being used in practice, the municipal council is informed.
Important insight
Lars Erik Gabrielsen finds it important to gain insight into what concrete measures the school has taken to turn "a difficult situation into a positive development", as it is phrased.
In addition to the mayor, the plan is for the chairman of the Committee for Culture, Education and Daytime Activities to come to Copenhagen together with two employees from the administration and a press officer.
Canadian incinerators
The briefing also states that the administration will send two employees and the head of the secretariat to Canada in connection with the Arctic Winter Games, where several members of the municipal council will participate, and where smaller incinerators will also be visited.
