A year ago, Donald Trump's son stood in Nuuk. Here's everything that's happened since.

Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., will visit Nuuk in January 2025. A year later, the American president is still focused on Greenland.

On January 7, 2025, a plane landed in Nuuk. On the side of it was written in big letters TRUMP. And on the tail fin was the American flag.

Out of the plane stepped Donald Trump Jr. Son of the American President.

And with that visit, everyday life in Greenland was turned upside down.

It has now been a year since Trump Jr. walked the streets of Nuuk. Here you will get an overview of what has happened between Greenland and Trump in the last year, and what the latest new developments are.

January 2025

· January 7, 2025. Trump Jr. visits Nuuk as a tourist. He hands out caps with Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again" to people on the street.

· January 7. President Donald Trump holds a press conference in Florida, where he does not rule out using military or economic force to gain control of Greenland.

· January 10. The then chairman of Naalakkersuisut Múte B. Egede (IA) says at a press conference in Copenhagen that “We do not want to be Danes. We do not want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlanders.”

March 2025

· March 10, 2025. The day before the Inatsisartut election, Trump writes on his social media Truth Social that the United States is ready to invest billions of dollars in Greenland and make Greenlanders rich.

· March 15, 2025. Hundreds of Greenlanders took to the streets in Nuuk, Sisimiut and Qaanaaq to demonstrate against Donald Trump's statements about annexing and taking control of Greenland.

On March 15, there was a large demonstration in Nuuk against the American interest in taking over and controlling Greenland.

· March 25, 2025. US Vice President J.D. Vance and wife Usha Vance announce that they will visit Pituffik Space Base. Usha Vance was supposed to visit Nuuk and Sisimiut and attend Avannaata Qimussersua. It is canceled after criticism that the US visit comes before the new Naalakkersuisut is in place, and several reports of demonstrations.

· March 28, 2025. On the same day that the new Naalakkersusiut, headed by Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D), is presented in Nuuk, J.D. Vance holds a press conference at Pituffik Space Base, where he says that Denmark has not invested enough in Greenland over the years.

April 2025

· April 29, 2025. In the midst of the crisis with the United States, King Frederik visits Nuuk, where he, among other things, goes on a boat trip on the fjord with Jens-Frederik Nielsen and holds a public coffee meeting in Katuaq.

June 2025

· June 15, 2025. French President Emmanuel Macron visits Greenland, where he holds a press conference with Jens-Frederik Nilsen and Mette Frederiksen in Nuuk. Here he says that “Everyone in France and the European Union believes that Greenland cannot be taken.”

August 2025

· August 18, 2025. The German Deputy Minister of Defense Nils Schmid visits Nuuk. He meets with the Danish Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greenland, Vivian Motzfeldt (S).

· August 28, 2025. The Armed Forces are extra busy with activities in Greenland in August, including several exercises with NATO allies.

December 2025

· December 8, 2025. Meetings of the Joint Committee and Permanent Committee between Greenland, Denmark and the USA are held in Nuuk. The American Ambassador Ken Howery says at a press conference that the United States respects the right of the Greenlandic people to determine their own future.

· December 22, 2025. Trump appoints Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as the U.S. special envoy to Greenland.

January 2026

· January 5, 2026. Jens-Frederik Nielsen holds a press conference where he says that we should not be worried. He says that the Greenland Government continues to seek dialogue with the US through 'correct channels'.

- In a situation where the US president has now once again said that the US is very serious about Greenland, this support from our NATO allies is very important and unequivocal, says Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

· January 5, 2025. A number of European leaders and the EU support Greenland and Denmark.

· January 6. An extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament is held, with one item: the Kingdom's relations with the United States.

· January 7, 2026. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announces that he will meet with Denmark to discuss Greenland. Vivian Motzfeldt confirms to Sermitsiaq that she will attend the meeting.
