Aleq and Sigu and Miké, musicians, ended up as winners of this year's Kodaprisfest, which took place last week in the Katuaq cultural center in Nuuk.
Aleq received the Talent Prize 2025 with the song "Inuunerma Hinningani", while Sigu and Miké received the Prize of the Year 2025 for the release "Malungivara".
Aleq, whose name is Aleqatsiaq Peary, when he does not use his stage name, from Qaanaaq, was also the only one nominated in both categories this year.
The first prize up for grabs was the Prize of the Year 2025, which was presented by the Minister of Culture of Greenland, Nivi Olsen. Miké Fencker was so moved that he could not say much else than thank you and handed over the floor to Johannes Sigurdsen, who admitted to the great amusement of the audience that he had received help from Chatgpt to write a short speech, which he, slightly nervous, managed to get through just fine.
After thanking all relevant people who have participated in the publication – and which has now led to an award – Sigu and Miké had agreed in advance to donate the prize money in case they were to win. Therefore, all 25,000 kroner were donated to Aputsiaq Ingemann Dahl, a young boy who is currently suffering from cancer. This was acknowledged with a standing ovation from the audience.
The explanation was as personal as it was sad. Johannes Sigurdsen lost his older brother, Niisi, to cancer last year. It affected him. He takes life much more seriously now.
Aleq was sitting in Qaanaaq when he received a video call from one of the evening's hosts, Tôrtia Johansen, who initially asked him to tell about the song's creation. She then cryptically said that was not actually the reason for the call and she informed him that he had actually been chosen as the winner of the Talent Prize 2025.
It blows him away. He can't find the right leg to stand on and is more or less speechless for several seconds. He first starts to say thank you in West Greenlandic, but then switches to his native dialect, Inughuartut.
This year's Kodaprisfest, which turned out to contain a lot of emotions, is approaching its end, which is with the newly released song, Kalallit Nunaat – kalaallit pigaat, by Siiva Fleischer, Glenn Møller and Steffen Lynge.
