On Wednesday at 1:00 PM, Jukku Kielsen will climb Ukkusissat in Nuuk, where the goal is to hoist Erfalasorput to the top. The initiative comes in the wake of recent developments in the relationship between the United States and Greenland.

Jukku believes that today, when a meeting is being held between Greenland, Denmark and the United States, the timing is particularly appropriate.

– I had originally planned to do it this weekend, but today makes more sense. That's why I've chosen to take early time off from work and go up, says Jukku Kielsen.

The hike up is expected to take around 1.5 hours, and the conditions are predicted to be slippery and rough, requiring both experience and the right equipment. Although the climb may be demanding, Jukku hopes that more people will make the trip with him.

– So far there are two of us. I don't know if there will be more. There are some who have said they would like to join, but it's an everyday event and many are at work, so it's completely understandable, he says.

Are frustrated with the political situation?

Jukku Kielsen says that he has been frustrated by the political situation between the United States and Greenland, and he hopes that the trip – in addition to hoisting Erfalasorput – can also give him a form of redemption.

– Everything that's happening has taken a toll on my everyday life, so I hope the trip can help me get rid of some of the frustration, he says.

The meeting point is in Qinngorput, at the Nukissiorfiit building, where you meet 10 minutes before departure. Any participants participate at their own risk and must bring their own necessary equipment, including spikes.

The Greenlandic flag, which is raised today on top of Ukkusissat, is sponsored by Stochholm Elteknik.
