France opens a consulate general in Greenland on February 6.

This was stated by France's Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, according to the Reuters news agency.

The announcement comes on Wednesday morning, at a time when the crisis between Greenland and Denmark and the United States has intensified due to US President Donald Trump's repeated statements about taking possession of Greenland for security reasons.

"Attacking another NATO member would not make sense. It would also be contrary to US interests. And therefore this blackmail must of course stop," Jean-Noël Barrot said, according to Reuters.

When French President Emmanuel Macron visited Greenland this summer, he revealed plans to open a consulate general in Nuuk.

It was said at the time that this should strengthen cooperation between the countries.
