“Nuka”, a daycare center in Kangerlussuaq, has organized a reindeer hunt for children. Qeqqata Municipality reports this on its Facebook page.
- As the first kindergarten in Greenland, we have arranged a reindeer hunt for the children and the event was a great success. The companions on the trip were exclusively women, writes the municipality in the announcement.
The initiative came from a five-year-old child, whose idea the staff decided to investigate further.
- The process started with us asking the children what they were interested in and what they would like to do. One of the five-year-old children himself suggested that we go reindeer hunting, writes Qeqqata Kommunia.
The staff took the proposal seriously and investigated the possibilities and began to prepare applications. The municipality says that the children were prepared by being repeatedly told that they would have to go far during the hunt.
- One of the children, who already has experience with reindeer hunting, contributed with explanations and shared his knowledge with the other children, thus helping in the preparation process, the announcement states.
The children were four and five years old respectively. The reindeer hunt lasted about six hours, and they walked about 10 km.
